VSU’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program Celebrates V-Day on Feb. 14

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program will celebrate V-Day’s 15th anniversary from 12 – 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, on VSU’s front lawn. There will be information about violence, food, a D.J. and raffles for great prizes.

“We will be joining activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities and women and men across the world to express outrage and demand change by striking, dancing and rising in defiance of the injustices women suffer,” said Dr. Tracy Woodard-Meyers, director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. “We encourage everyone to come out and rise up against violence against women.”

Eve Ensler created the “One Billion Rising” campaign as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.

For more information about the event, contact Dr. Tracy Woodard-Meyers at 229-249-4842 or tmeyers@valdosta.edu.
