VSU Student Awarded CIEE South Korea Scholarship

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Matthew Rivera was awarded the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) South Korea scholarship. This competitive, fully paid scholarship will pay for Rivera, a biology major and religious studies minor, to spend spring break in South Korea.

CIEE received hundreds of applications nationwide and nine applications from VSU, with only 40 spaces available.

To apply, students were required to be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate university student in the United States, have completed at least one semester of university level courses before date of departure, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, be 18 to 25 years old on the date of departure, have little or no previous exposure to Korean culture, and be unable to spend a full semester or academic year abroad.

CIEE South Korea scholars will spend March 17-26 in South Korea exploring the country's culture and people. While staying at Yonsei University in Seoul, students will attend academic lectures, go on cultural tours around the city, and participate in excursions to historically and culturally important areas of the country, such as the Demilitarized Zone.
