VSU Celebrates ‘Topping Out’ of HSBA Building

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University and Atlanta-based KBR Building Group hosted a topping out ceremony to celebrate the last beam placed at the top of the Health Sciences and Business Administration (HSBA) building. The 140,000-square-foot, $32 million facility located on the Rea and Lillian Steele North Campus is scheduled to be completed by January 2014.

“Today's topping out is another milestone in this landmark community effort,” said VSU President William J. McKinney. “This building represents VSU's commitment to health care innovation for decades to come”

The HSBA building will house six health sciences programs: Nursing (including Dental Hygiene Program with Wiregrass Georgia Technical College), Communication Sciences and Disorders, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Social Work, and Health Care Administration. The new facility will allow Valdosta State to expand existing programs and develop new degrees to produce more health care professionals.

“This represents a major milestone in the construction project,” said A.J. Wendell, project manager for KBR Building Group. “It signifies that we have completed the structural steel framing and is recognition that the project continues to progress on schedule with safety as our top priority.”

The HSBA facility is KBR Building Group’s second project awarded by the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission (GSFIC) with the University System of Georgia. Architectural design is provided by Heery International and Ellis, Ricket and Associates.
