VSO Participates in Nationwide Food Drive

VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is joining the third annual "Orchestras Feeding America" nationwide food drive sponsored by the League of American Orchestras to fight hunger in America. This year’s food drive runs at VSU the week of March 19 - 26, centered around the symphony concert on March 24.

VSO partners include Second Harvest of South Georgia and the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts. Beginning March 19, donations of non-perishable food items can be brought to the collection boxes found in the lobby of the VSU Fine Arts Building, the mezzanine on the second floor of VSU's Student Union or the lobby of the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts downtown. Symphony patrons are also encouraged to bring items with them the night of the concert. Let’s all pitch in to “DRIVE OUT” hunger in America!

Most needed food:
Dry soup, rice, powdered/canned milk, macaroni & cheese, cereal, peanut butter, beans, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, canned meats, stew, soup, pasta, cereal, fruit juices/sip-sized juices

Items that can’t be accepted:
Items in glass jars or bottles, unlabeled, or dented cans, any open or resealed packaging, perishable foods, homemade foods, expired products, monetary donations, clothing, diapers or other non food items

For more information about the food drive, please contact Dr. Hsu, VSO music director, at 229-333-5841 or hphsu@valdosta.edu.
