Reade Hall Announced as 2012 Student Recycling Contest Winner

VALDOSTA -- The Recycling Subcommittee of the Environmental Issues Committee sponsored the 3rd annual 2012 Student Recycling Contest, held from Feb. 24 - March 9. Residents placed their recyclable cans and bottles in bins that Campus Services placed in each residence hall and the number of bags picked up from each hall was tracked. Reade Hall was the winner for the second year in a row.

Campus Services, under the direction of Jim Muzzey, kept a tally of the number of bags as they picked up the material throughout the two weeks. The residence hall with the highest number of bags per 100 residents was named the winner and will receive a pizza party provided by Housing and Residence Life, coordinated by Ryan Teter.

The total number of bags collected increased by 34 percent from 2011 and by 102 percent from the first contest held in 2010. The total number collected this year was 83 bags.

The results for the participating halls are as follows:
Brown Hall - 7 bags
Centennial Hall - 12 bags
Converse Hall - 3 bags
Georgia Hall - 12 bags
Hopper Hall - 15 bags
Langdale Hall - 7 bags
Lowndes Hall - 8 bags
Patterson Hall - 7 bags
Reade Hall - 12 bags
