VSU Hosts Eighth Annual Blazer Build

VALDOSTA -- More than 100 student-athletes are contributing their efforts to build a home for a local family with the Valdosta-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity during the eighth annual Blazer Build. The service project began Jan. 20 and will continue until Feb. 4.

“We completed a total of 12 hours during the first weekend,” said Erin Foote, graduate assistant and coordinator for the build. “The participants did an outstanding job and we are excited about what next two weekends will bring. The plan is to get the entire athletic department involved.”

Last weekend’s participants included the members from the football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams. Foote said that approximately 45 student-athletes volunteer per weekend.

Blazer Build participants will continue at the site, located at 410 N. Troup St, on Friday, Jan. 27, Saturday, Jan. 28, Friday, Feb 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4.
