Valdosta State Chamber Singers Perform by Candlelight Sunday, Dec.4

VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta State Chamber Singers, an elite choral ensemble of 36 singers, will perform holiday programs by candlelight at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, in the grand acoustical stage of West Hall’s rotunda. The joyous occasion will feature renaissance motets, new compositions and familiar favorites such as “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Fum, Fum, Fum,” and “Silent Night.”

“For many people in the community, this concert has become a tradition,” said Paul Neal, director of choral studies. “Every year, people tell us that their holiday doesn’t begin until that final performance of Silent Night sung around the audience. It truly is magical.”

The Chamber Singers will also present the world premiere of Balulalow, written by Dr. Jim Shrader, chair of the Department of Music. Proceeds from the hour-long performance will support the Chamber Singers’ spring tour to perform at the American Choral Directors Association Regional Convention in Winston-Salem, NC.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Neal at (229) 333-5812 or paneal@valdosta.edu.
