Senior Artists Host 'Overload'

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University’s largest graduating art class will host the fall 2009 senior art show, Overload, from Sunday, Nov. 15, until Monday, Dec 7.

Openings will be hosted from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov 15, in the VSU fine arts gallery and from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Nov 16, at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts downtown.

Griner Automotive Group, Mike and Ginny Marafino, and Flexer Enterprise will provide refreshments and the student jazz ensemble will entertain guests at the VSU show, which is free and open to the public.

All 23 graduating artists will have 3-5 pieces of artwork displayed at the university and at least one at the Turner Center. Due to the number of entrees, artwork will be displayed within the gallery and throughout the halls in the Fine Arts Building.

“It is a fantastic show, overflowing from the gallery into the halls and front yard of the Art Gallery! 'Overload' is the perfect title for this show as the 23 students exhibiting are the largest senior class to show in the gallery so far,” said Julie Bowland, VSU’s gallery director. “Their work is top-notch and includes every imaginable media, style and subject. Come see for yourself.”

Senior art major and gallery assistant, Angela Marafino, is proud to display three paintings, a porcelain plate and one screen print at the university exhibit.

“This show provides great exposure for us and our artwork and gives us a chance to showcase some of the best work we've created during our college career," said Marafino, who's award-winning photo, "Familiar," is for sale at the Turner Center. "It also means a lot to us because we did everything -- even designing the brochure and printing the t-shirts."
