Gaskins Named Employee of the Semester

VALDOSTA - Information technology specialist Jason Gaskins was recently named Employee of the Semester by the Council on Staff Affairs.

Nominated by supervisor Lisa Baldwin, Gaskins serves as the programmer analyst coordinator for Enterprise Application Services. Coworkers said he goes above and beyond his duties of maintaining PeopleSoft Financials and Human Resources database systems, the strategic planning database and online budget reporting tools and building custom applications for the Finance and Administration Division. They agreed he deserved the award because of his hard work, willingness to meet goals and the sacrifices made to complete jobs.

The Valdosta High alumnus earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Valdosta State and is working toward a Master of Public Administration.

As the employee of the semester, Gaskins received formal recognition on a plaque displayed in the president’s office, $100, several tickets to athletic events, coupons and VSU merchandise.

Runners-up for the honor included Jessica Klotz, Access Office, Valerie Holton, music department, and Beverly Phelps, Alcohol and Other Drug Education.

Honorable mentions include Rebecca Tippett of Aerospace Studies, Sandra Burgman in custodial, Rebecca Taylor of the Office of Testing, Paulette Hopper in custodial, Katrina Bloom in chemistry, Kathy Sundin of Information Technology and Tim Yorkey in Employee and Organizational Development.
