VSU Hosts Fall Career Expo for Students and Alumni

VALDOSTA - This October, the Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education will host the Career Expo, a series of events to prepare students and alumni to enter the business world.

The Dress for Success Fashion Show will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6-8 p.m. in the Magnolia room. Using VSU students and staff as models, the show will demonstrate stylish attire that is appropriate for interviews as well as casual or professional situations.

Sodexo Dining Services will cater the Career Development and Etiquette dinners which will provide tips on professional dining and socialization. On Thursday, Oct. 16, students can attend dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Room or from 7-8 p.m. in the Rose room. Advanced registration of $10 is required by Friday Oct. 10; cash, charge, Blazer Bucks or checks will be accepted at Palms Dining Center.

After acquiring appropriate skills for first impressions, students will have a chance to put them into action on Career Day from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center. Regional and national businesses will offer full and part-time jobs, internships and other business opportunities to students looking for employment. Students will be able to meet business representatives formally during the event.

Career Day is open to students of all majors. Individuals are encouraged to dress professionally, bring many copies of their resumes, and inquire about the multitude of opportunities available. Representatives from manufacturing, healthcare, financial, retail, non-profit/social service sectors, and state and federal government agencies will be present. Grad school representatives will also be at the fair to discuss further educational development. There is no advanced registration required but students can pick up a list of participating business and agencies a week before the event.

The Career Expo is sponsored by the Student Success Center, Student Employment, Sodexo Dining Services and Alumni Relations. Call (229) 333-5942 for more information.
