Red Hots Win National Title

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Valdosta State Red Hots Dance Team led throughout the competition to finish first in the Dance Open Division at the National Dance Association's national competition Friday.

The Red Hots scored an 8.817 during Thursday's preliminary round before tallying a 9.130, out of a possible 10.0, in the finals Friday morning to win the national title. The 2008 competition marked just the second year that the Red Hots had competed on the national level.

The VSU Cheerleading squads also made good showings at the National Cheerleading Association's championship event. The Co-Ed squad stood third after Thursday's preliminary round with an 8.925, but suffered an injury to one of its male members during the final round Friday, dropping the squad to fifth overall. Meanwhile, the All-Girl squad scored an 8.396 Thursday before finishing with an 8.382 in the finals to finish third.
