Academy Award Winner To Speak for the President's Lecture Series

Valdosta State University’s College of the Arts will host Academy Award Winner and VSU alumnus Ray McKinnon to speak as part of the President’s Lecture Series on Tuesday, March 20, beginning at 8 p.m. in the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center auditorium. Dr. Randy Wheeler will lead the discussion in an “Inside the Actor’s Studio” type interview with McKinnon, titled “The Reel Deal with Ray McKinnon.”

McKinnon, a writer, director, producer, and actor, will speak candidly about his work in films, such as O Brother Where Art Thou and Bugsy. McKinnon won the Academy Award in 2002 for “Best Short-Live Action” for The Accountant, which McKinnon wrote, directed, and starred in.

“We’re excited to have him coming to campus,” Jacque Wheeler, professor of Communication Arts, said about the Adel, Georgia native.

Anyone may attend the lecture, and a reception will take place prior to the lecture at 7:30 p.m. For more information, please contact the College of the Arts at (229) 333-5832.
