Omar Tyree to speak January 11 at VSU's Martin Luther King, Jr.Annual Celebration

Best selling author Omar Tyree will be the guest speaker for Valdosta State University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Celebration, “The Dream Continues,” scheduled for Thursday, January 11, 2007. The program, which is free to the public and presented by VSU’s Office of Equal Opportunity Programs/Multicultural Affairs, will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Magnolia Room of VSU’s University Center.

Tyree has sold more than 1.4 million copies of books worldwide. A journalist, performance poet, songwriter, screen writer, entrepreneur, and described as a creative genius, Tyree is an energetic and fiery speaker. He is the author of 14 books. His topics include The State of Urban Literature, Leslie, The Life of MLK Jr., Images of Women in the Media and The Equation for Life. Tyree has had articles published in The Washington Post, Essence, Upscale, Black Collegian, Washington Times, and Black Issues Book Review.

The VSU King celebration will also include performances by the Valdosta High School Chorus and the Valdosta State University Mass Choir. Refreshments will be served immediately following the event.
