VSU Student Affairs Division hands out awards

Valdosta State University's Division of Student Affairs recently held its annual opening recognition breakfast for the new academic year and three special awards were presented. Each year the awards are given out to VSU employees for their special efforts in several categories both inside and outside the campus.

The internal "Service to the Division" award was presented to Leah McMillan, a counselor in the VSU Counseling Center. The award was presented for service to the Student Affairs Division and to VSU students.

The "Service to the Community" award was presented to Sandra Griffin, who handles loans as assistant director of Financial Aid, a unit of the Student Affairs Division. This award is presented to a division employee for service to the Valdosta community.

Whit Chappell, director of Athletic Advancement, received the award for "Service to the Division," which is presented to a VSU employee outside of Student Affairs for support of the division. Others nominated for this award were Jan Fackler, assistant director of Financial Services; Lisa Baldwin, assistant director of Information Technology for Enterprise Applications Services, and Brian Anderson, systems analyst in the Enterprise Applications Services Department of Information Technology.

The Student Affairs Awards Program was planned by the Division's Staff Development Committee, co-chaired by Richard Hammond, director of Campus Recreation, and Kimberly Tanner, director of the Access Office for Students with Disabilities. The Awards & Recognition Committee, chaired by Teddi Walker, assistant director for Residence Life, coordinated the nomination and selection process for the awards.
