Valdosta State University takes part in GIS Day
Valdosta State University's Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences
department will host Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day on
Wednesday, November 16, with an open house from 11:30 to 2:30 in
the GIS lab, Nevins Hall, room 2020.
GIS Day is a part of Geography Awareness Week, started when
President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1987. The purpose of
the awareness week is to educate schools, businesses and the public
on the equipment used to understand geography, such as mapping and
analysis tools that give people a better understanding of the
environment.
Such equipment will be on display at the VSU open house, including
24 computers displaying power point presentations prepared by
students.
Dr. Paul Vincent, assistant professor of geography, will also be
giving presentations to students from the local schools. For more
information, contact Dr. Vincent, at 333-5752 or
249-4847.
