VSU's SIFE Team Makes Final Four

Valdosta State University's (VSU) Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) presentation team finished fourth out of 850 SIFE teams nationwide. The competition took place on May 22-26 in Kansas City, MO.

?The SIFE team did an extraordinary job of performing under great scrutiny and pressure?, said Dr. Wayne Plumly, VSU's SIFE Advisor. The audience consisted of over 4,000 people including more than 150 CEO's representing a few of the top corporations in the world. The team received recognition for the city, university, and state. Sife members were able to secure summer internship opportunities as well as job offers. The presenting team members were Katie Smith, DeMeakey Williams, Erin MacKean, Yulia Vrandopulo, Chris Day, Casey Kennedy, Ryan Church, Gregg Clark, and Nathan Walker.

The SIFE team implemented a total of 44 community service learning projects this year. Highlights include the creation and opening of after-school programs for underprivileged children, teaching 575 children about great American entrepreneurs, reaching the Latino population by teaching basic business skills, and aiding 5th grade students in starting a business and earning money for savings accounts.

Plumly stated that with the finals over, it is time for SIFE to start recruiting for next year. For all who are interested, applications for the 2004-05 membership will be posted on the board across from room 225 in Pound Hall on Thursday, June 3. Summer programs are also scheduled.
