VSU Art Gallery opens season with visiting artist

The Valdosta State University Art Gallery first exhibition for the 2000-2001 season will feature 28 paintings from artist Walter Hnatysh, Aug. 21-Sept. 15. An opening reception is scheduled for Aug. 21, 7 - 8:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.

Hnatysh's exhibit is a retrospective, which shows a sense of humor and mystery that invites the viewer to examine them closely. "The paintings deal with my ongoing interest in complex spaces, color and light," said Hnatysh.

Hnatysh, an associate professor of art at Florida Atlantic University, has had 18 solo exhibitions. He has been in more than 60 shows and more than 12 collections throughout the U.S. and abroad, one of which is on display at the American Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Hnatysh earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Temple University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University.
