VSU earns 'employer of the year' award

Valdosta State University was recently recognized by the Valdosta Mayor's Council for Persons with Disabilities with an "Employer of the Year" award. VSU was honored for its continuing leadership role in promoting positive hiring practices dealing with people with disabilities.

The Mayor's Council for Persons with Disabilities was formed by Mayor Jimmy Rainwater in 1988 and is the local branch of the President's Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities. The council is dedicated to changing not only the architecture but the attitudes which affect individuals with disabilities. Membership is open to the general public, employers and advocates for persons with disabilities.

The award was accepted for the university by Inman Grimsley, director of Human Resources.
